About This Image
Antonio Gálvez was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1928. Besides being a photographer, illustrator and artist, Gálvez is a well-respected author, particularly known for his book on filmmaker Luis Buñuel. This portrait of Buñuel is a cliché-verre, like those that Picasso and Brassai produced.
In 1970 Gálvez worked with Antonio Saura, one of the major post-war painters to emerge in Spain in the fifties, to create these surrealistic portraits of director Luis Buñuel.
Gálvez's work is in the collection of the Fundacio Vila Casas. His art work is also published in the artist catalogue, La ferida del món, Antonio Gálvez (2009); Prosa del observatorio/Julio Cortázar; and fotografías de Julio Cortázar con la colaboración de Antonio Gálvez.
