About This Image

From the movie Gone with the Wind, this print was made especially for Warner Brothers' publicist Robert S. Taplinger. Warner Brothers had lent Olivia de Havilland to the GWTW project. This is not the typical still that you see on the market. It is oversized, on good double-weight semi-matt paper (rather than the glossies you usually see), of high quality, and uncropped for the 70mm film version that came in in 1951; it also passes the blacklight test, all lending credibility to it being made prior to 1955. Both Clarence Bull and Fred Parrish took the still photography for Gone with the Wind. Scene where Rhett Butler seeks the solace of an Atlanta madam after being barred from his wife's bedroom. Champagne bottle and glass provide some of the props in this scene. See: Gardner and Gardner, Pictorial History of Gone with the Wind, p.189. Provenance: estate of Robert S. Taplinger.
