About This Image

A "British" soldier (although in decidedly French military garb) attempts to seduce a young maid, probably French, who appears decidedly disinterested while his hands roam upward. His friend looks on over a table of drafts with a cigar held to his mouth and his sword's scabbard in his other hand. His leg is jauntily on the table. The sign above the tavern reads the "British Lion", perhaps a sarcastic comment by the French manufacturers of the stereo. When held up to the light, this albumen tissue stereo is transformed into a expertly hand-tinted scene. Stylistically this image reminds me of several by Alphonse Le Blondel and at least one other in the group of stereos that this image came from is attributed to Blondel.
