About This Image
The party is drinking ale. A playful image and a great print. Titled and annotated on verso, 'Epreuve directe. Papier heliogravure d'art tirage au chlorine d'or - fixage separe' (Contact print. Photographic art paper separately toned with gold chloride). Reader Laurent Cochet thinks 'Epreuve directe' is a short for 'Epreuve à noircissement direct' usualy translated by Printing Out Paper (POP). A kallitype is not a printing-out process because you use a developer. Cochet suggests that the print is perhaps a salted paper gold-toned print, which was then fixed, to make the distinction with "viro-fixage", because, at that time some photographers used to put gold chloride and hyposulfate in the same solution.
