Very early x-ray made with printing-out paper. On a wonderful printed (both sides) heavy mount, like a giant cabinet card. Comes with the original envelope with patient name and area x-rayed. The x-ray group was founded in 1898, according to the printed notation on the envelope, so this print was probably made between about 1898 and 1905. Caesar Comas and Agustí Prió were one of the firms that introduced the x-ray to Spain. In 1898 they opened one of the first medical x-ray clinics. In 1900 they exhibited their x-rays at the Athenian of Barcelona and published some of these x-rays in photography magazines of the period with general information on how to produce these prints. There is a three-digit telephone number, but Barcelona had phone service from 1886. There is some buckling to the print itself, which could probably be flattened by a good conservator, but the print and its mount are in otherwise fine condition. The lines you see are from the print buckling reflection, and are not in the print itself.
