Print was made by H.H. Snelling, probably for the Photographic and Fine Art Journal, which ceased publication in 1859. Madame Elizabeth Ponisi was a noted English actress, born Elizabeth Hanson, in 1818. She worked in the American theater and specialized in Shakespearean roles, such as Portia in the Merchant of Venice, Emilia in Othello, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth and the Queen in Hamlet. She died in 1899.
