About This Image
Amateur Lejeune was a close friend of Leonard Misonne, whom he met in 1920, and who taught him how to work in oil and bromoil processes. Reportedly, it was Misonne who convinced Lejeune to enter an International Photography contest in Paris, where he won the Bronze Medal. Lejeune was born in 1885 in Brussels as the only son of a middle class family. He studied chemical engineering at the University of Liege in Belgium and developed a successful career in the chemical industry. He had one son (Jean) and died in 1946. On Sundays he went out to fields and forests south of Brussels to photograph the quickly vanishing landscapes. He also apparently entered XIVme Salon International De Photographie, 1935 sponsored by the Association Belge de Photographie et de Cinématographie. The juror was Pierre Dubreuil.
